Whether you'd like to enjoy radiant floor heating in your kitchen, bathrooms, family room or anywhere else, simply plan your radiant floor heat installation and take these 4 simple steps:
Step 1. Lay out ThermoTile heating cable on the room's subfloor.
It's always best to start with a floor heating layout plan or drawing and take pictures of your installation.
Install FixFast cable hold down strap every 4 ft.
ThermoTile heating cable has a 10' lead wire that needs to be connected to the thermostat. Follow a layout plan and start the heating cable(s) where the lead wire(s) reach the thermostat.
Loop the heating cable back and forth securing to with the FixFast cable hold down strap. Use hot glue to adhere cable to the subfloor when necessary to fit in irregular spaces.
Keep heating cable 3" from walls and fixtures and 4-6" from toilet rings.
Be careful not to cut or damage the floor heating cable.
Pull lead wire(s) & sensor up conduit.
Pull lead wires up conduit to the electrical box for connecting to the thermostat. Connections to the thermostat will be made later. (It is recommended to connect the heating cable lead wires to InstAlarm to monitor the installation and sound an alarm if an accident damages the heating cable ) Pull the thermostat sensor wire up a separate conduit or attach it to the stud.
Install sensor probe between heating wires
Before applying thin-set mortar over the radiant heating cable, be sure to place the thermostat's floor sensor evenly spaced between two heating wires. Groove the subfloor a little if necessary to nest the sensor probe so that the floor will lay flat. Duct tape the sensor in place to ensure it does not move during tiling.
Step 2. Spread thin-set mortar over ThermoTile or pour self-leveling cement.
Plastic trowel If spreading thin-set mortar directly over the radiant floor heating cable in one step, we recommend using a plastic trowel to prevent cutting the heating wires.
Or, you can use the flat side of the trowel, and float a skim coat of thin-set that just covers the heating wire, then lay tile in a second step.
Or, you can pour a layer of self-leveling cement, let dry, then lay tile, laminate, carpet, linoleum or other types of floating and glued down floors.
Step 3. Lay tile & apply grout. Follow normal tile & grout instructions.
Use a latex, acrylic or epoxy grout for grouting between the tiles. Latex, acrylic and polymers add flexibility to grouts to resist cracking. Epoxy grouts provide high strength, good thermal shock resistance and fast cure. Do not use sharp objects to clean the grout from between the tiles. Most damage to the heating cable occurs when excess grout is scraped away or a tile is removed to be re-leveled and a sharp tool goes deep enough to cut the cable. Call customer service for tips on removing tiles.
Step 4. Make electrical connections.
Connect all wires to the appropriate terminals on the thermostat. If installing more than one heat cable, connect heat cables in parallel to the thermostat. Although simple to do, an electrician is required by the NEC and UL.

Absolute best experience. Love the product, great costumer service. Knowledgeable, expert advice 100% availability, all in all 5 star company. Would recommend always. Bought radiant heating in all my house in upstate NY. After the second winter is over I can say this system is much better than previous regular heating system I had. Heat is distributed evenly throughout the room, which makes for greater comfort and a nice warm feeling when you walk on it. The system is not drying the air like forced air alternative. It does not have "jumps" in temperature from too hot to too cold, instead the temperature is constant all the winter. Bought thermostats in all the rooms so everyone can choose their own "climate". In terms of money, the electrical bill is about the same as with natural gas heating before (I am not factoring the cost of installation, just bill over bill).

Dan was the on-call technician when we were installing our Thermofloor pads, on a Sunday. He responded to the call promptly, was patient and helpful, and made himself available for further questions.
