Best Snow Melting Systems in 2023
Best Snow Melting Systems in 2023

Where can Snow Melting Systems be Installed? Snow melting systems are designed to be installed under concrete, asphalt, pavers, stone, and tile. They are perfect for high traffic areas such as driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, stairs, and ramps but can be used in many other applications. Best Time for Installation When installing a snow melting system under asphalt or concrete, it must be completed when the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If concrete is poured below this temperature, the chemical reaction that strengthens the concrete slows down resulting in weaker concrete. If asphalt is installed below this temperature, it will harden faster giving the paving crews less time to work with the asphalt. As you can imagine, it is most practical to install one of these systems prior to the concrete, asphalt, or stone being laid down since it will save you time on demolition. Snow Melting System Types NeverFreeze® snow melting systems are available in mat form or loose cable. Although they both perform the same basic function, the main difference lies in their method of installation. Snow Melting Mats NeverFreeze® snow melting mats are available in 24- and 36-inch widths and can heat up to a 160 square foot area on a single mat. Using several mats allows you to expand the coverage area. If you simply want to clear a path for your tires to get in and out of your driveway, you can install thinner mats ranging from 14 to 18 inches wide. The advantage that mats offer over loose cable is their ease of installation. Since the mats come with factory pre-spaced cables, it saves time on measuring and cuts down on the amount of securement points to the ground. The mats do also have a degree of flexibility to accommodate differently shaped rooms due to their cut and turn feature. The mats (not cables) can be cut and rotated to fit the area you wish to heat. Since the spacing of the cables are fixed on the mat, you cannot adjust their spacing. For this reason, mats with 4 and 5 inch spacing are available to provide options on the amount of heat distributed per square foot.  Snow Melting Cable NeverFreeze® snow melting cable is usually preferable when heating large spaces with long runs. Due to the nature of loose cable, it offers a more flexible installation accommodating spaces of all shapes and sizes. There are also more options when it comes to spacing, which as previously mentioned will change the heat distribution density. We recommend installing our cable with either 3, 4, or 5 inch spacing to effectively melt the snow. Lastly, some homeowners opt for the cable because this system has a lower price point than that of the mats. NeverFreeze cables are optimized to deliver the same heat output while providing 30% more coverage than competing snow melting cables. Less cable translates to a lower project cost and fewer cable securement points resulting in an easier installation. Conclusion Snow melting systems can be installed under a variety of outdoor surfaces but are most commonly found under concrete or asphalt. They are great for areas that receive a heavy amount of foot traffic such as driveways and walkways. If installing a snow melting system under concrete or asphalt, make sure to do so when the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow melting systems come in the form of mats or loose cable each offering their own distinct benefits. Common Floor Heating Installation Errors
    Common Floor Heating Installation Errors

SOME MISTAKES TO AVOID As with any installation it is important to follow the manufacturer guidelines closely to ensure a successful installation. That being said, we are all only human, and we make mistakes from time to time. Over the years we have noticed some common errors and misconceptions that we wanted to bring to light so they could be avoided in the future. Here are a few mistakes to avoid when installing an in-floor heating system.  Wiring Your Power Module Incorrectly Each thermostat has a maximum of 15 amps that it can support. If heating a large space requiring additional amperage, you will either need an additional thermostat or an OJ Power Module.  The power module essentially acts as a slave to your thermostat. Once your mats or cables are connected, and the thermostat is connected to the power module, you will be able control the floor heating system from a single thermostat. If wired incorrectly, the mats or cables connected directly into the power module could end up running constantly. It is important to make these connections correctly so that they can be controlled from your thermostat. Overheating will waste energy, cause uneven heat in the room, and potentially damage your flooring so make sure to reach out to us regarding any questions on this. Supplying Too Much Voltage Electric floor heating systems come in either 120 or 240 volts. It is very important provide the correct voltage to the mats so they operate as intended. Electricians know that certain appliances run more efficiently on 240v than they do on 120 volts. All the floor heating thermostats that we offer can run on either voltage. The same is not true however for the heating systems themselves. If a system designed to accept 120 volts is supplied with 240v (double the rated voltage), the mat will actually receive four times the power it is equipped to handle.  This will cause the cable to overheat and ultimately fail. In rare cases, this can even create a fire hazard if inferior heating systems are used. Luckily, we have systems like WarmStep® and ThermoFloor® with our patented FiberThermics® technology possessing an inherent Thermal Cut Off (TCO) for overheat protection across the entire length of the heating element. The self-fusing nature of the heating cable offers major safety advantages over traditional metal heating wires. Supplying Too Little Voltage If the floor heating system is supplied with less voltage than it needs, for example a mat designed to accept 240 volts is supplied with 120 volts, you will not cause any overheating.  You will encounter the opposite issue, underheating. The system simply will not be able to provide the heat needed to warm your flooring. Cutting the Heating Cable It is always best to work with our team to plan your floor heating installation.  We will help select the correct amount of cable for your space and provide a detailed layout for your reference. If however, you are in a situation where you have a length of cable that is too long for the room, cutting the cable in the field is NOT an option. Once cut and spliced, the system will either cease to operate, or it will work temporarily until it overheats and shorts out. Also, floor heating systems like ThermoTile or ThermoSlab require embedment in concrete or cement which is highly alkaline. This is why it's important the cables are hermetically sealed. Our factory installed shrink connectors have a special adhesive ensuring nothing seeps in. This prevents the elevated pH levels from corroding the heating element which will eventually lead to failure. If you were to end up with an excess of cable for your room, it is best to either exchange for a shorter size, run it into an adjacent room, or talk to our team to see if decreasing the cable spacing is possible for your floor covering. Nicking the Heating Cable If the cable becomes nicked at any point during installation, it will likely cause the floor heating system to short out. If it doesn't short out on the spot, it will eventually fail due to the corrosive nature of cement previously mentioned. To avoid nicking the heating cable, we always recommend using a plastic trowel to spread your cement or mortar as metal trowels have sharp edges that can create issues. Floor Sensor Placement The floor sensor is a crucial component of the floor heating system because it communicates the floor temperature to the thermostat allowing for precise controls. One misconception is that the sensor needs to be placed in the center of the room when really it just needs to be 6-12 inches into your mats or cable. Doing so will not create any issues, however it will create some extra work that could have been avoided. What will create issues is placing the sensor too close or far from the heating elements. They should always be placed evenly between the heating wires to provide the most accurate reading possible. For example, if the sensor is too close to the heating wire, your thermostat will think the floor is warmer than it is and run your system at a lower setting resulting in a reduced operating temperature. InstAlarm Another misconception is that an InstAlarm can be used to verify the resistance of your floor heating cables. Although the purpose of this tool does involve resistance, it is for a different purpose. The InstAlarm alerts the installer to the loss of continuity in a heating cable at any point during the installation. For example, if a heating cable is accidentally nicked or spliced during installation, the continuity could be lost and the InstAlarm will sound alerting you to the fault. This allows you to address the issue before going any further with the installation. We are Here to Help Our number one priority at ThermoSoft is ensuring a high-level customer experience. The History & Fundamentals of Radiant Heat
The History & Fundamentals of Radiant Heat

The History & Fundamentals of Radiant Heat Radiant heat is a form of heat which is transmitted through electromagnetic waves. The sun is the most obvious example of radiant heat. Radiant heat is used in a wide range of applications such as cooking and heating systems. In this article, we will learn exactly what radiant heat is and provide a brief into its origins  Radiant Heat Explained Radiant heat is when an object emits electromagnetic waves that can be absorbed by other objects. In other words, radiant heat can travel through a vacuum which means it does not need a medium to move. This sets radiant heat apart from convective or conductive heat which does require a medium to transfer energy. We already mentioned the sun as a source of radiant heat because it emits a large number of electromagnetic waves which warm the earth after traveling through a vacuum of space. This same process is also used to apply heat in other ways. For instance, a microwave can heat food without any direct contact between the food and the heat source. In-floor heating systems are another example of using radiant heat. For instance, the Thermotile cable heating system directs heat up through the tile flooring and throughout the room. History Of Radiant Heat The history of radiant heat is actually quite interesting as it traces back to ancient civilizations. Believe it or not, the Romans first embraced the power of radiant heat back in 350 BC. They did this by using furnaces to force heat through chambers in the floors which would then heat the inside of the structure. Most notably, the heat from this system would radiate up through the floor and create a comfortable and even temperature throughout the rooms. This underfloor heating system was called a "hypocaust" and it was a huge innovation for engineering. In the early 1900s, scientists began studying similar methods which led to the first hydronic radiant heating systems. This in turn lead to the modern electric radiant heating systems which are taking over the floor heating industry due to their ease of installation and their superior efficiency. Why is Electric Floor Heating So Popular Today? Unlike forced air, which is hottest by the vent, radiant floor heating systems provide an even distribution of heat throughout the room. The heat comes from the ground up gently warming your feet and objects in the room. Since the heat is lower in the room you can experience comfort at a lower temperature making for efficient heat use. Electric radiant heat systems such as our WarmStep® line comes in thin, easy-to-roll-out mats powered by a thermostat. They do not need to be imbedded in concrete, which saves time and money. Also, using floor heating means relying less on forced air systems with dirty air ducts. This translates to cleaner air which is both dust and allergen-free. Lastly, with radiant floor heating, air doesn't become dried out as it does with forced air allowing you to breathe easy all year long. Takeaway Radiant heat is a versatile form of heat transfer that has been used throughout history in buildings and homes in the form of floor heat. Although the systems of today are more advanced than the ones used by the Romans, the principles of radiant heat remain unchanged. Floor heating offers a variety of benefits such as cleaner air, efficiency, and even heat distribution. Self-leveling vs. Thinset Cheat Sheet
    Self-leveling vs. Thinset Cheat Sheet

Learning the Difference Between Thinset & Self-leveling Cement When it comes to floor installation, self-leveling cement and thinset are two commonly used materials. Both materials are designed with a similar purpose but you need to know which one is most appropriate to use. That is to say, the distinct properties of each material make them suited to different types of jobs. In this article, we explain the difference between self-leveling cement and thinset.  Overview Self-leveling cement is a mixture of cement, sand and additives which allow it to level out by itself with little intervention. This type of cement is typically used on large surfaces like concrete slabs or areas that are not level. On the other hand, thinset is a type of adhesive which is made up of cement, sand, and a polymer which strengthens its bonding ability. Thinset is typically used for smaller areas that are more level. This brings us to the first of four primary differences between thinset and self-leveling cement. Consistency Self-leveling cement is thinner than thinset and more fluid which allows it to flow and level itself out. However, it does not have the ability to hold flooring in place. Typically flooring will be floated or glued down with an adhesive on top of the dried cement. Thinset has a thicker consistency that allows it to adhere to surfaces and hold flooring in place. Floor Coverings The number one consideration of which type of cement to use hinges on the type of floor covering that is being installed. Flooring that is flexible such as vinyl, laminate, and wood (engineered and solid), or more prone to exposing unevenness. In this situation it is important to achieve the most level floor possible with a self-leveling cement. Tile, ceramic, stone, or other material however, are rigid and will bridge small imperfections in your subfloor. For this application you would use a thinset that will bond your tile to the subfloor. Application While self-leveling cement is poured onto the subfloor and seeks its own level, it is still necessary to spread or agitate it with a squeegee or a spiked roller. Thinset takes more time to apply since it is thicker and is spread with a notched trowel which creates ridges. Installers typically use a laser line level as a guide when spreading. Thinset can be spread in one layer, but more often is spread on both the subfloor and the underside of the tile. Cost Self-leveling cement is usually more expensive than thinset. While thinset is less expensive and is applied at the same time as the flooring, self-leveling cement needs time to dry before any flooring can be placed on top. Floor Heating Both self-leveling cement and thinset are compatible with electric in floor heating systems. For instance, Thermotile cables or mats can be easily embedded into either thinset or self-leveling cement. You might also consider this type of in floor heating system because it's durable, effective, easy to install and surprisingly inexpensive. Final Thoughts Self-leveling cement and thinset serve a different purpose and they have different properties and applications. While self-leveling cement is better for creating a level surface for flexible flooring, thinset is perfect for bonding tile to a subfloor. Either way, choosing the right type of cement is critically important for any floor installation. Busting the Myths of Floor Heating
Busting the Myths of Floor Heating

8 Floor Heating Myths For most of us, our home is our biggest investment and we need to be smart about how we invest in it.That being said, there is a great deal of information out there than can mislead homeowners. Let us address the TOP 8 myths associated with floor heating.  Myth #1: It’s Too Expensive The number one floor heating myth of all time! No, it's not too expensive.  An average-sized bathroom may only cost an estimated $500 to $700. The cost to install a whole-house electric floor heating system is between $2,500 and $5,000. Prices will vary depending on the home's square footage and the labor cost. Since we are on this subject, we should mention that floor heating can actually save you money and increase the value of your home. In fact, electric floor heat could reduce your HVAC heat load by 25 percent, with savings as much as 40 percent or more on energy. Myth #2: Only Tile and Concrete Floors Can Use Floor Heating Electric floor heating works with other types of flooring, such as wood floors, carpet, vinyl and laminate.Concerns that these types of flooring will insulate rooms from the heat produced are unfounded since “emissivity,” or how well a substance emits energy as thermal radiation, is more important than insulation factor. Wood floors and carpeting have very high emissivity, so they make good radiators. A bonus of using electric heat with carpets is the elimination of allergens trapped in carpets from blown-air HVAC systems. Myth #3: Floor Heating Damages Hardwood Floors No, hardwood floors suffer damage from moisture. There is no reason for hardwood floors to crack because of electric heat. This is one of the biggest floor heating myths out there, but the updated NWFA Installation Guidelines have proved this false. Find out more about radiant heat and hardwood in Maintaining Heated Wood Floors and Installing Radiant Heat Under Wood. Myth #4: Energy-Efficient Homes Don't Benefit from Floor Heat No, even energy-efficient homes can benefit from electric floor heat. This is because electric heating is more efficient than HVAC systems since 100% of the energy used gets converted into heat. Also, a feeling of comfort is achieved at a lower temperature since the heat is directly under your feet. Myth #5: Installation of Electric Floor Heating Is Difficult No, homeowners - with or without a contractor - can install electric floor heating. ThermoSoft has over 1,500,000 customers who would agree. Our team of floor heating experts are available to assist you from planning through installation. If you prefer to hire out, we can refer you to an installer in your area. Myth #6: Floor Heat Discolors Your Floors This is one of the most outdated floor heating myths - floor heat could change the color of your floors to pink or yellow. Homeowners mistakenly thought that this was because the radiant heat made the floor hot. The truth is that flooring is often discolored by the UV rays coming through windows, not by floor heating systems. Myth #7: Floor Heat Takes a Long Time to Warm You Up False. Floor heat warms you and the furnishings around you. It's similar to the instant warmth felt from sunlight when opening your blinds. The warmth you feel from the sun is called “thermal performance”.The thermal performance created by floor heat is instantaneous. Myth #8: Electric Heat Is Dry Heat No, electric floor heat does not affect the moisture content in the air. HVAC systems however, do dry out the air. They take in the air, heat it up (which dries it out), and blow it through your house. This will is why we run our humidifiers throughout the winter to avoid static shocks. And that is not hot air. The Best Way to Heat Laminate Flooring
The Best Way to Heat Laminate Flooring

Upgrade Your Laminate Flooring Laminate flooring is a popular choice because it is inexpensive, durable, easy to install, and aesthetically pleasing. However, laminate is not impervious to damage and can be cold on your feet. The ThermoFloor® electric floor heating system is perfect for not only warming laminate, but also extending the life of the flooring.  What is ThermoFloor Exactly? ThermoFloor is a 4-in-1 heating pad designed specifically for heating laminate flooring. But what are these four features? With a field impact insulation class (FIIC) of 60, ThermoFloor pads provide sound proofing which helps to suppress floor noise. It also has a thermal insulation R-Value of 0.5 which further enhances the efficiency of the floor heating system. ThermoFloor can also abate moisture preventing water damage which is a common issue for laminate. However, it is the superior heat technology that really makes ThermoFloor stand out from the competition. Let's take a closer look at the benefits of this system. Safety First Unlike competing products using thick rigid copper wire heating elements, ThermoFloor employs a flexible stranded technology called FiberThermics® that provides added safety and durability. If the heating wire was to get too hot, it has a built-in shut off feature (a thermal fuse) for added safety. Since these wires are only 1/16" thick, the added floor height is minimal. Protect Your Laminate When installing a laminate flooring, it is very important that an underlayment is placed over your subfloor. This is because subfloors often are not perfectly level. Over time, traffic over these imperfections can lead to dented areas in your flooring. Also, the joints where your laminate is pieced together can become damaged. The underlayment pad fills in these minor deviations creating a more level surface and providing the support needed to increase the life of your flooring. The ThermoFloor system comes with a high quality pre-attached underlayment pad, eliminating the need to purchase and install a separate underlayment. Unlike traditional underlayments, this pad also offers moisture wicking properties for an additional level of protection. As previously mentioned, any water spills will be absorbed by the pad instead of the laminate to avoid damage. Energy Efficiency ThermoFloor also increases your homes energy efficiency. Since it puts you in direct contact with the heat, you achieve a comfortable environment at lower temperatures. This translates to a lower operating temperature which will in-turn reduce your energy bills. ThermoFloor also converts 100% of the energy input into heat, eliminating electrical waste and saving you money each month. Unparalleled Comfort ThermoFloor is laid underneath your flooring and provides an even and consistent warmth throughout the home. Reducing the use of forced air heat decreases the amount of uncomfortable drafts created by fans. And since the floor heating system has no blowers or moving parts, it doesn't create a sound. Health Benefits Another benefit of reducing your dependence on forced air systems is improved air quality. Forced air spreads dust which is harmful to those with allergies and other breathing issues. The underlayment also contains anti-microbial properties which provide resistance to mildew and mold further reducing your risk of illness. Final Thoughts Although laminate flooring is more durable than other flooring types on the market, it is still possible that it may become damaged. Installing a ThermoFloor heating system will not only extend the life of your flooring, but also offer superior heating efficiency, health benefits, and maximum comfort. 8 Amazing Benefits of WarmStep Radiant Heating Mats by ThermoSoft

Benefits of Warmstep Radiant Heating Mats Discovering the heating mat of your dreams, no matter what installation or flooring you have. ADD LONG-LASTING FLOOR HEAT WITH ANY INSTALLATION AND FLOOR TYPE Radiant floor heating has been gaining popularity recently as a cost-effective and efficient way to heat a home. Thermosoft's Warmstep radiant floor heating mats are an easy-to-install solution that provides many benefits over traditional forms of heating. This is the new type of radiant floor heating, and it is far more efficient than the old-fashioned radiant floor heating. What Is WarmStep? Warmstep radiant floor heating mats are made of a thin, permeable fabric that can be easily installed under any type of flooring, including hardwood, laminate, tile, and even carpet. If you're considering radiant floor heating for your home, here are some of the benefits that Warmstep mats can offer: The Benefits of WarmStep Radiant Heating Mats over Other Forms of Heat 1. They Can Be Installed Anyway (Direct Nail Down, Glue Down, or Floating Installations Are All Approved) Have you ever seen a radiant floor heating system that is completely hidden? There are no unsightly vents or ductwork. The Warmstep radiant floor heating mats can be installed directly over your existing flooring, so there is no need to rip up your floors or make any major changes to your home's existing infrastructure. 2. Compatible with and Approved by Wood Flooring Manufacturers and NWFA WarmStep radiant floor heating mats have been tested and approved by leading wood flooring manufacturers. In addition, the mats are compatible with the NWFA's (National Wood Floor Association) guidelines for radiant heat systems. This means you can have the beautiful wood floors you've always wanted without worrying about them being damaged by the radiant heat mats. 3. Thin as a Credit Card The most exciting thing about WarmStep radiant floor heating mats is that they are only 1/16' thick! It won't make your floors feel any different when walking on them. Remember that other radiant floor heating systems can be as thick as 9 inches, making your floors feel very different (and not in a good way). 4. No Extra Installation Steps Best of all, there are no special installation requirements for WarmStep radiant floor heating mats. You simply roll out the mat, tape it down, and then install your flooring on top, just as you would. This makes WarmStep radiant floor heating mats the full radiant heat solution for do-it-yourselfers and anyone wanting to install a radiant floor heating system without hiring a professional. 6. Provides Uniform Heat over the Entire Floor, Eliminating Cold Somewhere it's cool or warm? Unevenness is common with radiant floor heating systems but not with WarmStep mats. The mats provide uniform heat over the entire floor, so you'll never have to worry about cold spots again. 7. Made in the USA & UL Listed WarmStep heating mats are made in the USA and are UL listed, so you can be sure that you're getting a high-quality product backed by a team of experts. 8. 10-Year Warranty WarmStep mats come with a 10-year warranty, so you can be confident that your investment is protected. Cheat Sheet for Floor Heat Under Carpet
Cheat Sheet for Floor Heat Under Carpet

Cheat Sheet for Floor Heat Under Carpet Taking the main factors into consideration when planning a heated carpet floor. CONSIDERATIONS FOR HEATED CARPET FLOORS Do you live in a cold place and are looking for ways to warm your home? Choosing the best floor heating system is the way to go. If you have already heated your home and are looking to carpet the floors, you will need to check which carpet is compatible with your heating systems. Here are key notes you need to know when you heat carpeted floors. Choose Electric There are many reasons why people prefer electric radiant heat compared to hydronic heat. With electronic radiant heat, installing, maintaining, and repairing is very easy, and the support is readily available. When you use a hydronic heating system, it will be a lot of work to install, maintain and repair it. In case of a water leak, you can cause dangerous mold and mildew. This can damage your carpet, thus incurring additional charges for purchasing one. Check On the Thickness of Your Carpet the main reason you installed a heating system in your home is to keep you warm. It does not make sense when you do the heating and then buy a thick carpet. The essence of a thin carpet is to allow sufficient heat to pass through. When buying rugs for your home, ensure the carpet is compatible with the underfloor heating system of choice. Never Heat Under Furniture That Sits Directly On the Carpet Many homesteads have a lot of furniture on the floor or on top of a carpet. When installing your heating system, you need to exclude that area where the table sits. Order Less Heating System Than More You now know you cannot cut the heating cable in your heating system with a warm step and ThermoTile. You can cut the fabric surrounding the cord, but with ThermoFloor, you cannot. With ThermoFloor, you cannot reduce the spacing between the cable. When you order heating systems, keep in mind your layout and furnishings. Add an Extra Temperature Sensor When installing your heating system, ensure you order an extra temperature sensor. You do so because you need the additional sensor when your original temperature sensor gets spoilt. If one sensor fails, you can hook the other sensor to the thermostat with its end enclosed in the electrical conduit box. No need to tear open your floor to repair a damaged sensor. Ask for Assistance If you are having difficulties with your underfloor heating system no need to hesitate; reach out to our experts! Our friendly team member will receive your call. All your questions will be answered and your problem solved. The team will be with you from planning to picking your system to its installation. Final Verdict When dealing with any heating system for your home, you need to get things right. If you choose something incompatible with the system, the heating system may misbehave. If things go beyond your knowledge, you can talk with an expert any time by calling (800)308-8057 or sending us an email. 5 Tips for Carpet Over Heated Floors
5 Tips for Carpet Over Heated Floors

5 Tips for Carpet Over Heated Floors Here are five tips for carpet over heated floors. HEATED CARPET TIPS When it comes to keeping your house warm, you don't need to compromise. You need the right heating system that will go well with your flooring. You need to warm your house for many reasons, but the comfort of not freezing to death can make you go the extra mile. After you have a heating system, you need to look for what is compatible with the heating system of choice. When it comes to keeping your house warm, you don't need to compromise. You need the right heating system that will go well with your flooring. You need to warm your house for many reasons, but the comfort of not freezing to death can make you go the extra mile. After you have a heating system, you need to look for what is compatible with the heating system of choice. Here are five tips for carpet over heated floors. Get the right heating system. It would be best to consider some things when you are heating your house. One of the major reasons people get wrong results after installing their heating floor system is because they don't know if the system goes with the flooring they have. If you plan to use a carpet on your heating system, you must determine which floor suits you better. Thermofloor mats, warm step mats and Thermo tiles mats are good examples of mats that work well with any heating system on the market. Think about cleaning the carpet. If you intend to use a carpet on top of a heating system, you need to figure out how you will be washing the carpet. If any spillage happens and your carpet becomes wet, it can damage your heating system. If you clean your carpet using water often, the moisture can damage the heating system. To use a carpet, you must put a moisture barrier under it. The barrier will prevent moisture and water from ever reaching your heating system. Keep carpet thickness in mind. The main reason for using any heating system is to warm your house. If you want to use a carpet on the top of the heating system, keep its thickness in mind. You want to look for a carpet that can allow heat to transfer effectively. To ensure the carpet, you buy, check the carpet R-value. This will let you know if the carpet is compatible with your heating system. Keep the heating system away from the edges For your heating system to last for long, you need to keep the heating system far away from the room edges. This is because carpet tacks tend to damage the heating elements. Sharp nails are used to hold the carpet in place using wooden strips. It is crucial to keep that information in mind when you are laying out your heating floor plan. Keep underlayment in mind. Ever wondered what the layer between the floor heat and carpet is? They are underlayment pads used during heating system installation to act as a cushion. You need to check your R-value to ensure your carpet is compatible with your heating system. Thermofloor mats, warm step mats, and Thermo tiles mats have an underlayment attached to them, and the underlayment is improved compared to others. Conclusion Heating your house does not have to be challenging. It can be a fun experience if you know which flooring you have and what heating system they are compatible with. When you decide to use carpet on top, make sure you adhere to the above tips. For help with your project, call us (800)308-8057 or email us.
