What are ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats?
ThermoTile® Heating Mats provide electric radiant floor heating and are designed for embedding in mortar or thin set. It can be installed under porcelain, ceramic and stone tiles, in any part of your house including bathrooms, kitchens, hallways, basements and four-season rooms. The construction of the heating mat consisting of an electric floor heating cable is attached to a fiberglass mesh mat, making it easier to roll out, cut, turn, and cover the desired heating area before embedding in cement or mortar.

Are ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats safe for home or business?
Yes. ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats are designed and tested for reliable electric floor heating in residential and commercial spaces. All ThermoTile® heating products are UL listed. ThermoSoft ThermoTile® floor heating mats are constructed and shielded to emit virtually zero electromagnetic fields (EMF).
What floor types can ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats be used with?
ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats are most often used under ceramic tile and natural stone, but can also be embedded in thin set, mortar, or self-leveling cement under many other compatible floor coverings. For wood, laminate, vinyl, or carpet projects, WarmStep® Electric Heating Mats or ThermoFloor® Electric Heating Mats may be easier options.
How are ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats installed?
ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats are embedded in mortar or self-leveling cement under the finished floor. The heating mat can be rolled out, cut through the mesh, and turned to fit the heated area. Final electrical connections should be made by a qualified electrician according to the ThermoSoft installation manual.
Will ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats add height to my floor?
For tile and stone installations, ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats are embedded within the setting material and usually do not create a noticeable height issue. Other floor coverings may require self-leveling cement, so height should be planned as part of the installation.
Can I use more than one ThermoTile® electric floor heating mat in a room?
Yes. Many projects use more than one ThermoTile® electric floor heating mat. Multiple heated mats are electrically wired in parallel to the thermostat. They should not be daisy chained or extended in series.
Can ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats be cut or reshaped?
You may cut the fiberglass mesh to turn or reshape the ThermoTile® electric floor heating mat, but you must never cut the heating cable. Cutting the electric heating cable will damage the system and void the warranty.
Can I shorten the ThermoSoft cold lead wires?
The cold lead wires do not produce heat and may be shortened or extended by a licensed electrician according to the ThermoSoft installation manual and local code requirements.
What happens in areas not covered by ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats?
It is normal for some areas of the room to remain unheated. The installer should create a level mortar or self-leveling compound bed across both heated and non-heated areas.
What does the fiberglass mesh do?
The fiberglass mesh helps hold the heating cable in place, supports the cut and turn layout method, and adds an anti-fracture structure within the mortar bed. It is designed to make layout easier while supporting a durable electric heating cable installation.
How many watts per square foot do ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats produce?
ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats produce about 12 watts per square foot with standard cable spacing.
How much does ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats cost to operate?
Operating costs depend on the heated area, local electricity rates, insulation, thermostat temperature settings, and how often the heating system runs. For a specific project estimate, contact ThermoSoft’s US experts.
How warm will ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats make the floor?
A properly installed ThermoTile® system can typically raise the floor temperature about 10 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit above the room’s ambient temperature. A thermostat with a floor temperature sensor helps manage comfort and protect compatible floor coverings.
How long will ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats last?
ThermoTile® electric floor heating mats are very durable and reliable. They do not have any moving or wearable parts, requiring no regular maintenance once installed correctly and left undisturbed. ThermoTile® floor heating cables have a Lifetime Limited Warranty. Thermostats are warrantied separately.
Who can help me choose the right ThermoTile® electric floor heating mat?
ThermoSoft’s US experts can help confirm mat size, layout, voltage, thermostat needs, and installation approach before you order.

Thermostat

A floor heating thermostat is necessary to control your radiant heat system. Most of our floor heating thermostats are dual-voltage and include a 5ma GFCI, unlike models from online warehouse retailers. A thermostat is capable of a 15-Amp load; adding a power module or relay will increase system load capacity. Each includes a floor sensor, but a backup is recommended. Select 1 thermostat for each zone desired. Contact an expert for guidance.
