Top Benefits of Owning a Snow Melting System
Top Benefits of Owning a Snow Melting System

Why Install an Inground Snow Melting System? With the winter season comes a variety of challenges, some of which pose a serious threat to our safety.Thankfully, a quality snow melting system can eliminate many of these risks providing safety and peace of mind to homeowners. In this article, we will highlight the main benefits of snow melting and provide a brief introduction to the different inground systems available today.  Save Time and Money on Snow Removal The first and most obvious benefit they offer is of course taking care of the snow and ice removal for you. This can either eliminate time consuming shoveling or save you money that would have otherwise been spent on a snow removal service. Today the national average to hire a snow removal company is between $25 and $75 per hour which can add up. Investing in snow melting system is a one-time expense that will save you a considerable amount of money over the years. Avoid the Dangers of Snow Removal The act of snow removal itself sends over 11,000 Americans to the hospital each year with a variety of health conditions. Some of the most common conditions are frostbite, hypothermia, back injuries, broken bones and heart problems. Eliminate the Damages of Snow Removal Snow removal can actually damage your driveways and walkways. Untrained plow operators can wreak havoc on your driveway by putting the plow in direct contact with concrete or asphalt. This is especially true if the plow doesn't have a soft edge putting metal in direct contact with the driveway surface. The usage of salt to melt snow can also cause damage to your concrete or asphalt over time. Also, when salt enters your home on the bottoms of your shoes, it can act like sandpaper leaving small scratches on any flooring surface. Even the grout between your tiles can become cracked by salt when stepped on the wrong way.It can also pose a threat to our lawns and gardens. Melt Snow and Ice Before it Accumulates With slip-and-fall accidents being - leading cause of emergency room visits, it's important to minimize the potential for accidents. With a snow melting system, you can prevent patches of ice and slippery snow accumulations from forming for added safety. Types of Snow Melting Systems NeverFreeze® snow melting mats are often chosen due to their ease of installation. Since the mats come with factory pre-spaced cables, it saves time on measuring and cuts down on the amount of securement points to the ground. The mats are available with both 4- and 5-inch cable spacing. The closer the cable spacing, the more heat will be distributed per square foot for increased melting power. NeverFreeze® snow melting cable is preferable when heating large spaces with long runs. It also offers a more flexible installation, accommodating spaces of all shapes and sizes and has a lower price point than the mats. NeverFreeze cables are optimized to deliver the same heat output while providing 30% more coverage than competing snow melting cables. Less cable translates to a lower project cost and fewer cable securement points resulting in an easier installation. Conclusion There are many reasons to invest in a snow melting system. They eliminate the need for manual snow removal. By doing so you avoid the dangers related to snow removal and the damaging effects to surfaces and vegetation. Top 6 Important Benefits of Snow Melting Mats
Top 6 Important Benefits of Snow Melting Mats

Top 6 Benefits of Snow Melting Mats Uncovering the Benefits of Snow Melting Mats. MAKE YOUR WINTER SEASON A BREEZE WITH SNOW MELTING MATS We all know how harsh winter can be especially if you live in the northern and eastern states. Braving icy walkways and feeling the arctic chill on your skin and can make anyone uncomfortable. Snow removal can be dangerous, costly, and time consuming. Although we cannot change the hand mother nature deals us, we can take measures to prepare for the storm.  Where to Use Snow Melting Mats Snow melting mats provide gentle radiant heat for any out-door setting including residential, commercial, and industrial environments. They are perfect for heating walkways and melting snow on stairways. They can also be used on landings, driveways, patios, and more. 1. Save time and Money on Installation This snow and ice melting system is by far the quickest and simplest solution on the market. Unlike heating systems that must be imbedded in concrete, snow melting mats can be placed on top of existing concrete, asphalt, or pavers and plugged into any outdoor outlet. There is no need to hire any contractors or electricians. Easy plug and play set-up allow you to start using snow melting mats the day you receive them. 2. Versatility Mats can be used independently or interconnected to cover large areas. Extension cables are available to connect mats over larger distances if needed. In addition to their connectivity, mats can be relocated as needed. Simply remove any snow, ice, or debris from the desired area and place your mats. 3. Save time and Money on Snow Removal Keeping up with snow removal can be time consuming and expensive. With all the responsibilities we have in our daily lives, each moment you have is precious. We all wish we had more time to spend with our loved ones or indulge in our favorite leisure activities. Why not free up your schedule by checking another chore off the list? Many people call on snow removal companies for their services. This can be convenient, however with a national average cost of $25 to $75 per hour, these services can drain your bank account. Investing in snow melting mats is a one-time expense that will save you a considerable amount of money over the years. 4. Avoid the Dangers of Snow Removal There are many risks associated with blowing and shoveling snow. In fact, over 11,000 Americans visit the hospital each year due to snow removal related conditions. Some of the most common are include frostbite, hypothermia, back injuries, broken bones and heart problems. Frostbite results from cold temperatures freezing the skin and underlying tissues. Hypothermia occurs when your body temperature drops below 95ËšF causing your heart, nervous system, and organs not to function properly. This condition can be very dangerous and even life threatening. Cold temperatures can also increase your risk of a heart attack. When exposed to cold temperatures, your heart works harder to maintain your body temperature which leads to an increased heart rate and blood pressure. This along with the physical stress of shoveling significantly increases the risk of experiencing a heart attack. 5. Protect Your Flooring When entering from the outdoors in winter we track in snow, water, salt and slush. All of these have the potential to damage your flooring. The first warning sign to look out for is unsightly staining and discoloration. This can lead to a deterioration of your floors finish leaving it vulnerable to further damage. When salt enters your home on the bottoms of your shoes, it can act like a sandpaper leaving small scratches on any flooring surface. Even the grout between your tiles can become cracked by salt when stepped on the wrong way. Many flooring materials can also be damaged by prolonged contact with moisture which can lead to warping and rot. 6. Environmentally and Pet Friendly Spreading sidewalk salt is an affordable and effective solution to snow melting. It does however come with some undesirable side effects that pose a threat to our lawns, gardens, and even our furry friends. A When salt settles near the roots of your plants, it absorbs the water and nutrients your plants desperately need to thrive. This leads to brown patches in your lawn and stunted vegetation. Our pets can also be negatively impacted by ingesting sidewalk salt. Even if pets are not intentionally consuming salt, they can still be exposed when licking salt off their paws. Common side effects include upset stomach, diarrhea, vomiting and dehydration. We Have the System for You As you can see there are many unpleasant and costly issues the winter season can bring. PYROBOX Snow Melting Controls and Sensors

When installing a NeverFreeze snow melting system, you will need a control group to operate the system. ThermoSoft offers several brands to accommodate a variety of applications. The PYROBOX line includes controls designed for smaller residential applications to ones for larger commercial and industrial applications. Systems are available with power ratings starting at 30 Amps single phase all the way up to 600 Amp three phase. Options include single zone systems up to five zone systems for expanded coverage. All can be operated either in manual mode (activating and deactivating the system at predetermined time intervals) or in automatic mode (activating and deactivating by weather conditions). Most of the control systems require the purchase of separate sensors to detect the temperature and presence of snow and ice. PYROSELF This is an "all in one" snow sensor and controller designed for residential use. This system offers a quick plug and play installation and can be mounted on the side of your home or roof. The systems setpoint, ambient lower limit, RH sensitivity and thresholds can be adjusted using a remote control or an optional indoor wall mount control interface. When receiving a signal from the system's built-in aerial snow sensor, the heating elements are energized. You have the option to operate up to two zones simultaneously or run in staggering mode to accommodate a larger snow melting area. Electrical Information: Supply: 110-240VAC Load switching: 2 x 24A Max. Ratings Voltage: 240 VAC. Best Snow Melting Systems in 2023
Best Snow Melting Systems in 2023

Where can Snow Melting Systems be Installed? Snow melting systems are designed to be installed under concrete, asphalt, pavers, stone, and tile. They are perfect for high traffic areas such as driveways, parking lots, sidewalks, stairs, and ramps but can be used in many other applications. Best Time for Installation When installing a snow melting system under asphalt or concrete, it must be completed when the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. If concrete is poured below this temperature, the chemical reaction that strengthens the concrete slows down resulting in weaker concrete. If asphalt is installed below this temperature, it will harden faster giving the paving crews less time to work with the asphalt. As you can imagine, it is most practical to install one of these systems prior to the concrete, asphalt, or stone being laid down since it will save you time on demolition. Snow Melting System Types NeverFreeze® snow melting systems are available in mat form or loose cable. Although they both perform the same basic function, the main difference lies in their method of installation. Snow Melting Mats NeverFreeze® snow melting mats are available in 24- and 36-inch widths and can heat up to a 160 square foot area on a single mat. Using several mats allows you to expand the coverage area. If you simply want to clear a path for your tires to get in and out of your driveway, you can install thinner mats ranging from 14 to 18 inches wide. The advantage that mats offer over loose cable is their ease of installation. Since the mats come with factory pre-spaced cables, it saves time on measuring and cuts down on the amount of securement points to the ground. The mats do also have a degree of flexibility to accommodate differently shaped rooms due to their cut and turn feature. The mats (not cables) can be cut and rotated to fit the area you wish to heat. Since the spacing of the cables are fixed on the mat, you cannot adjust their spacing. For this reason, mats with 4 and 5 inch spacing are available to provide options on the amount of heat distributed per square foot.  Snow Melting Cable NeverFreeze® snow melting cable is usually preferable when heating large spaces with long runs. Due to the nature of loose cable, it offers a more flexible installation accommodating spaces of all shapes and sizes. There are also more options when it comes to spacing, which as previously mentioned will change the heat distribution density. We recommend installing our cable with either 3, 4, or 5 inch spacing to effectively melt the snow. Lastly, some homeowners opt for the cable because this system has a lower price point than that of the mats. NeverFreeze cables are optimized to deliver the same heat output while providing 30% more coverage than competing snow melting cables. Less cable translates to a lower project cost and fewer cable securement points resulting in an easier installation. Conclusion Snow melting systems can be installed under a variety of outdoor surfaces but are most commonly found under concrete or asphalt. They are great for areas that receive a heavy amount of foot traffic such as driveways and walkways. If installing a snow melting system under concrete or asphalt, make sure to do so when the temperature is above 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow melting systems come in the form of mats or loose cable each offering their own distinct benefits.
