What is ThermoTile Cable?
ThermoTile Cable is a loose heating cable system designed for ceramic and stone tile installations. ThermoTile uses FiberThermic heating elements, or high quality heat cables to apply gentle radiant heat to your flooring. ThermoTile gives you the greatest flexibility by arranging in any pattern with an uncoupling membrane. Pairing loose cable with a Prodeso membrane gives you all the benefits of an uncoupling membrane and also makes the layout of your loose cable easy. Uncoupling membranes add stability to your tile floor. The studs in the Prodeso membrane give you a guide for spacing your loose Thermotile Cable.
Is this a safe product to put in my home or business? What about Electromagnetic Field/EMF?
Yes. All our floor heating solutions endure rigorous development and in-house US quality control testing to ensure that your floor heating system is reliable and safe. Due to the shielding used in ThermoSoft products, our radiant heat systems add virtually zero EMF.
Can I use ThermoTile Cable with my floor material?
ThermoTile cable with Prodeso membrane is only compatible with tile floors. If you are heating another type of floor, be sure to check out our floor materials pages that will give you guidance for selecting the right system for your floor covering.
How do I install ThermoTile Cable? How does it all get connected?
ThermoTile Cable is embedded in mortar or self-levelling cement under your chosen floor material. Just have an electrician make final connections to the thermostat and to your home’s electrical system. Explore our installation guides and resources for more information! ThermoTile Cables are wired to a floor heating thermostat in parallel. The number of cables and layout of the room will affect the exact process of how to wire things together. Will this add height to my floor?
Minimal, ThermoTile cable and Prodeso Membrane will add 1/4" to your already planned tiling project. Remember, ThermoSoft does offer ThermoFloor and WarmStep as options that do not need to be embedded in cement to be installed under a wood, vinyl, or laminate floor.
Can I combine more than one ThermoTile Cable to fit a space?
Many projects involve using more than one heating cable, but this means that multiple cables are wired in parallel to the thermostat. The thing to remember is that you are not daisy-chaining heating cables, but rather the cables are working together to cover the appropriate square footage of your heated area.
Can I cut, shorten, or reshape the system?
You CANNOT cut the heating cable as this will damage the heating cable preventing it from heating up and void your warranty. In some applications, reducing the spacing used as you run the cable through the Prodeso membrane can allow you to fit a cable into a slightly smaller space than is our standard estimation. Consult with us or a qualified professional before deciding to pursue this method. Can I shorten the lead wires?
The lead wires, also known as cold leads because they do not produce heat, can be cut, shortened, or spliced with additional cold lead cable to lengthen them.
What do I do with areas not covered by heating system?
ThermoTile Cable allows for almost complete coverage of most room sizes and shapes because of the flexibility of arranging loose cable. However, almost every project will result in some areas that are not heated. This is perfectly normal, the Prodeso membrane is installed in both heated and non-heated areas resulting in a level floor throughout the entire space.
Is this Prodeso membrane something that I really want in my floor?
Absolutely. Prodeso membrane paired with our superior heating cables adds a number of benefits to a standard tile floor. These benefits include but not limited to protecting your tile floors from cracking and simplifying the installation.
How many watts per square foot does ThermoTile Cable output?
The standard output is about 12 watt per square foot at 3 inches average on center spacing. But his figure can vary if the cable spacing deviates.
How much will it cost to run this system?
The cost to operate is a complicated question to answer, as electrical rates vary by area, the home's insulation, and even by time of day. If so, a properly installed ThermoTile Cable can provide about 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit of temperature difference above the ambient temperature of the room. In practice, this is more than enough, even in extremely cold climates. We are positive that you will be entirely satisfied with the heat produced by ThermoTile. Are you concerned about applying too much heat to your chosen floor material? If so, fear not! ThermoTile is designed to have a gentle, reliable, and consistent delivery of heat to your floor material. Just give us a call if you need some guidance. How long will ThermoTile Cable last? How long is the warranty?
ThermoTile has a lifetime limited warranty and we have yet to see a ThermoTile Heating Cable fail due to old age. ThermoTile requires no regular maintenance once installed correctly and if left undisturbed (remember your radiant system is installed under your floor covering when planning a remodel!). The thermostats that we offer are warrantied for 3 years because we only use thermostats with GFCI protection which, per national electric code, is recommended to be replaced every 3 years. Replacing a thermostat is simple, easy, and inexpensive.

Combine cables as needed to fit open walkable space, avoiding areas covered by cabinets, vanities or other permanent fixtures. The heating cable cannot be shortened, so avoid over-filling. Each cable will connect to the thermostat, so larger cables will reduce required connections. At 2 stud spacing on a sole thermostat, 120V cables cover up to 125 ft²; 240V cables cover up to 250 ft².

A floor heating thermostat is necessary to control your radiant heat system. Most of our floor heating thermostats are dual-voltage and include a 5ma GFCI, unlike models from online warehouse retailers. A thermostat is capable of a 15-Amp load; adding a power module or relay will increase system load capacity. Each includes a floor sensor, but a backup is recommended.
